Description
The Northrop P-700 Adder is an attempt at creating a single-engine version of the P-600 Cobra (or YF-17A, which was later produced as the McDonnell Douglas F-18A Hornet). Real-life single-engined proposals were actually studied along the way.
A further development was the unmanned P-800 Viper [link] .

I've always wonder why nobody ever created single and twin engine versions of the same jetfighter. The commonality will be so much apreciated by the militaries. For example, a single engine Rafale with a smaller load of weaponry will be quite something, afterall, a normal twin engine Rafale is just the modern result of Mirage era. A jet engine usually weights jus a little over a ton, take one more from weapons, and some fuel...
For example, an empty Rafale C (wikipedia) has 9.5 tons while a Gripen has 6.8 tons! And the american engine of the Gripen has just a little bit more power than the current Rafale's Snecma.
