[link] recently asked me the following question on Formspring.me
[link] . I thought it would be nice to share my answer here for all to see. Wish I just had the time to be as creative as I'd love to be, but this is basically what I consider as seven sound steps:
1°) Always try your best but accept you're not perfect and stop at some point of the creative process otherwise you will forever be reworking your creation.
2°) Leave your work to rest for a couple of days or more and go back over it with a fresh eye to see if it's really as great as you thought it was.
3°) Observe life passing by, get inspired by sounds, smells, colors, voices... rather than by the works of other artists. Life and the world around us are the greatest masterpiece of all.
4°) Keep clear from all the lice and leeches, all those who get their kicks out of either criticizing or over-complimenting, and rather seek honest, objective judgement from professionals.
5°) Strive to identify what makes your creative process original, what it is that makes your work unique, original and recognizable, and turn it into your own trademark.
6°) Remember this sound piece of advice from producer Quincy Jones: "Everytime somebody says 'You can't.' I say 'Oh, really?!'' and push the limits that others try to impose upon your creativity.
7°) Although not everyone can claim to be an artist, remember that not every artist is a genius, and remember that fame and fortune may never be part of the package, that's why you've got to do it all for the love of it, first and foremost.
